MANILA, Philippines—Jennifer Aniston’s first Instagram post which showed a selfie with the cast of Friends gained so much traction in a matter of minutes which even temporarily crashed the site on Tuesday night.
The actress previously insisted she would not have a social media account but has now joined Instagram, garnering more than 1.5 million followers within hours.
Her first post shows the star posing with fellow Friends actors Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, David Schwimmer and Matthew Perry.
She captioned it: “And now we’re Instagram FRIENDS too. HI INSTAGRAM.”
The post now has more than 7 million likes and 320,000 comments as of posting.
Fans and fellow celebrities welcomed Aniston to social media, with Courteney Cox writing: “love you.”
Cox even welcomed Aniston via her own post with a reference to one of her lines from the show itself: “Hi Jen! Welcome to the social media world…it sucks. You’re gonna love it!”
Aniston’s The Morning Show co-star, Reese Witherspoon, wrote “YASSSS!!! Welcome to Insta Jen!!!”, while former partner Justin Theroux said “Woot-Woot! #first”.
The actress played the role of Rachel Green in hit sitcom Friends, which ran for ten seasons and recently celebrated its 25th anniversary.
Rumours of a Friends movie or a reboot of the series have been swirling in recent weeks.
However, Aniston dismissed the possibility of a movie earlier this month, saying: “Our producers wouldn’t want it, wouldn’t let us. It would have been fun. But whatever. Maybe it’s better this way, but we’ll never know.”
The 50-year-old also told US radio that the cast had hosted a get-together at Courteney Cox’s home.
“We had dinner, the whole gang. Everyone was there,” she told Howard Stern.
“Schwimmer was in town, we all happened to have a window of time, so we all got together.”
She also ruled out a Friends reboot, saying: “I honestly think, [though] we would love it, there is an idea if there is a reboot of the show, it won’t be even close to as good as what it was.
“It would ruin it,” Aniston said. —Sky News
